Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Date: Saturday, April 21, 2012 -

Centre for the Arts, Brock University presents Big Bad Voodoo Daddy “Big Bad Voodoo Daddy pulled off the impressive trick of recalling both the prewar big-band era as well as the improbable swing revival of the late '90s.” (L.A. Times) After an Albert Collins’ concert, the legendary blues guitarist signed Scott Morris’ poster, “Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.” That fateful signature became the seed for Morris forming BBVD in California in 1989. The Voodoo Daddy repertoire draws deeply from the swing music of the '40s and '50s with vigor. From Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington and Count Basie to Benny Goodman, The Dorsey Brothers and Chick Webb, this music don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing. And Big Bad Voodoo Daddy swings like the greats with a tight rhythm section, fierce and blaring horns, galloping guitar, raucous vocals and the biggest, baddest sound around.
