The Town of Fort Erie is a cosy community of nearly 28,000 people, nestled along the south-eastern shore of Lake Erie, at the of the Niagara River. Encompassing 168 square kilometres of both urban and rural land, Fort Erie has a small town flavour, but is still in close proximity to the big city amenities of Buffalo, N.Y., just a 10-minute drive across the International Peace Bridge.

The Old Fort Erie is a British garrison used during the War of 1812 to repel invading American forces. It was fully restored to provide the visitor with a sense of life as a soldier in the early 1800's. It is located at the mouth of the Niagara River and overlooks the City of Buffalo.

The Fort Erie Race Track and Slots are one of the premier thoroughbred horse racing tracks in Canada. They are home of the Prince of Wales Stakes Race at the end of July, which is the second leg of the Canadian triple Crown.

The Fort Erie Railroad Museum is home to the Canadian National Railway steam locomotive # 6218 and caboose for visitors to climb aboard to explore & enjoy. Museum is housed in an old train station circa 1873 - 1910.

Major events include the Friendship Festival - Fort Erie & Buffalo during the July long weekend; the Annual Siege Weekend in the Old Historic Fort Erie in mid-August, a re-enactment of the siege at Fort Erie, one of the bloodiest battles during the War of 1812; and the Heritage Day Festival and Craft Show at Niagara Christian College, Niagara Parkway in early October.

Today, the Peace Bridge soars across the Niagara River, and the town is one of the busiest border crossings between Canada and the U.S.
